Climate Change and Conflict Risks in the Pacific

The Pacific region is experiencing the environmental effects of climate change, which are likely to only increase in the coming decades. However, it should not be assumed that these challenges will lead directly to violent conflict. This paper identifies and briefly outlines a number of climate change conflict risks within the Southwest Pacific region. It is based on emerging work by Conciliation Resources, focused on the climate change and conflict nexus in the Southwest Pacific.

Beyond the vertical: What enables women mediators to mediate

This report focuses on the question of how to better create enabling environments for women mediators. It asks specifically: what are the enabling factors that contribute to the meaningful inclusion and recognition of diverse women in peace mediation? By examining cases that have (1) facilitated the meaningful inclusion of women in mediation processes, (2) contributed to developing women’s careers as mediators, and (3) promoted recognition of women’s roles in mediation across various mediation spaces, these enabling factors can inform good practice in this field.

Integrating gender in the DNA of peacebuilding: Learning with peers

Over two decades ago, United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 was passed. Since that time research has highlighted the gendered impacts of conflict and the links between gender inequality and outbreaks of violent conflict. Despite the evidence and well-established global normative frameworks, there is a gap between the transformative intent of UNSCR 1325 and its implementation. This report captures collective learning from 13 partner organisations on how to effectively integrate gender in peacebuilding and conflict prevention.
