The European Union funded Capacities for Peace project, implemented by Conciliation Resources, Saferworld and their partners, supported local actors to enhance the effectiveness of early warning and early action in conflict-affected contexts. In South Asia, in the wake of a devastating earthquake which hit Kashmir in 2005 and floods which beset the region in 2014, the project activities supported a process of joint reflection and analysis of the ways that communities and governments can better prepare for and respond to natural disasters.

Reconciliation is increasingly acknowledged as an important component in responding to legacies of violence in order to build sustainable peace. Yet reconciliation initiatives have struggled to achieve the transformative impact needed to create the space for inclusive peacebuilding to take place.

This new report seeks to inform peacebuilding in the Central African Republic by explaining the factors that have led to the current situation and analysing peacebuilding initiatives launched since the start of the crisis in 2013.

This report captures the main experiences and findings of the Capacities for Peace project. Implemented by Conciliation Resources and Saferworld, the project worked with local actors to enhance the effectiveness of early warning and early action in 32 conflict-affected countries.
