Youth perspectives on peace and security: the Georgian-Abkhaz context

In June and July 2017 Conciliation Resources’ local partners carried out two sets of surveys to capture the voices of youth in the context of unresolved conflict in the Georgian-Abkhaz context. Young people, reflecting some of the diversity of Georgian and Abkhaz societies, took part in focus group discussions (FGDs) and in-depth interviews. Participants discussed challenges to their peace and security, including but far from limited to the enduring impact of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict on their lives. They also discussed the barriers to engagement in peacebuilding and dialogue that they face and their ideas for overcoming these barriers.

South Sudan: youth perspectives on peace and security

In South Sudan, many young people understand the need for them to participate in peacebuilding, but often lack the capacity and resources to take action. Conciliation Resources carried out a study to capture the voices of over 100 young people in the context of on-going civil war in the country. This report documents their thoughts on what needs to change to enable them to meaningfully participate in peacebuilding.

Afghanistan: youth perspectives on peace and security

While Afghanistan’s deeply patriarchal society makes it difficult for young Afghans to participate in a significant way in politics, there is a history of youth political movements in the country. To get a better understanding of the future of youth and peace in Afghanistan, Conciliation Resources carried out a series of focus group discussions with young people in Kabul, Nangarhar and Kandahar. This report brings together some of the key findings from these discussions.

Colombian indigenous women speak up for peace

Despite being disproportionately affected by the conflict in Colombia, the voices of indigenous women are often not heard. Over the past year, alongside our Colombian partner CIASE, Conciliation Resources has been working to establish and support a network of indigenous women to play a fundamental role in the country’s peace process.

Partnering for peace

Conciliation Resources welcomed partners from across our global programmes to London in February for a three-day workshop to discuss the way we, and other peacebuilding organisations, understand and practice partnerships.
