Ambassador Kiplagat is presently the Director of the Africa Peace Forum, Kenya. At the time of the 1985 Nairobi agreement he was Permanent Secretary in the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and played a key role in facilitating the negotiations. He has extensive peacemaking experience in Africa, including a prominent role in the Mozambican peace process.

Dr Chris Dolan lived in northern Uganda in the late 1990s while working for the NGO ACORD. He completed his doctorate from the London School of Economics in 2005. His book, Social Torture; the Case of Northern Uganda, 1986-2006, was published in April 2009 (Berghahn Books). Since July 2006 he has been Director of the Refugee Law Project, Makerere University, Kampala.

Ghia Nodia is Chairman of the Caucasian Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development, an independent think tank in Tbilisi, and a sociology professor at Tbilisi State University. S. Neil MacFarlane is Lester B. Pearson Professor of International Relations at the University of Oxford, Professorial Fellow at St Anne’s College and Director of Oxford’s Centre for International Studies. In 1997, with colleagues at Brown University, he completed a monograph on humanitarian action in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that followed a companion study on Georgia’s civil conflicts published in 1996.

Greg Hansen has worked as a UN Volunteer in Georgia and as a civilian observer in the former Yugoslavia. He has conducted peace research in Lebanon and Mozambique and in 1982 served with a Canadian contingent of UN peacekeeping forces in Cyprus. In recent years Hansen was a trainer and field liaison for the Local Capacities for Peace Project and a consultant on Caucasus issues to the Humanitarianism and War Project.
