This policy brief draws lessons from Conciliation Resources’ Accord 18 Peace by piece: Addressing Sudan’s conflicts.

It notes the need to support an inclusive peacebuilding strategy.  Although the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was significant, there are very real risks related to its bilateral, exclusive nature.

The roots of the conflict, such as the distribution of land, are yet to be addressed and trustbuilding has been essential to the peace process so far.

Decision makers in Sudan need to encourage more informal dialogues and include groups such as women and refugees.
