European Union support to the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process

Since mid-2021, the European Union has led a new initiative to facilitate a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Our latest discussion paper reflects on the lessons learned from earlier experiences of peacebuilding in the Armenian-Azerbaijani context and discusses new challenges posed by militarisation, the rise of regional powers and the marginalisation of civil society.

The paper summarises findings from an assignment organised by European Resources for Mediation Support (ERMES) to assess the evolving challenges faced by EU peacebuilding in the South Caucasus.
