Pierre-Yves Monette
Pierre-Yves Monette is a recognised International Peace and Security expert. He has been a member of the UN Mediation Standby Team since 2011. His main areas of expertise are: constitution-linked questions, natural resource, religion-driven conflicts and National Mediator related issues.
His geographical expertise covers Africa (Central Africa, West Africa, Sahel, Southern Africa) and Asia (Indian Ocean islands -Maldives, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Comoros, Thailand). On behalf of the UN, he closely cooperates with RECs, especially with ECCAS (Central Africa), ECOWAS (West Africa), SADC (Southern Africa) and IOC (Indian Ocean Commission) on Peace and Security institutional support.
Pierre was a Guest professor at the College of Europe between 2002 and 2017. He has been the Belgian Federal Ombudsman (1996-2005) and is honorary Counsellor to the Belgian Head of State (currently, King Philippe I). He has also been a Ministerial Chief of Staff and Government Commissioner and is Attorney (on leave) at the Brussels bar.
Author of five essays and several scientific articles, his predilection subjects are peace and security, good governance and European integration.
He has a Master of Law as well as a Baccalaureate in Philology (University of Louvain, Belgium). He is fluent in English, French, Spanish, Dutch and also speaks German and Portuguese.
