This article, produced by Conciliation Resources with the support of other organisations, examines in detail the likeliness of a full military offensive by Nigeria against Johnny Paul Koromah's junta in Sierra Leone.

In light of the decision by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to reinforce the sea and air blockade on Sierra Leone, the article examines power relations in Nigeria itself and regional relationships.

It analyses General Sani Abacha's support for the reinstatement of Sierra Leone's democratically elected government in light of his own rise to power through a coup.  It also refers to Nigeria's experience in Liberia and internal rifts within ECOWAS.  The article concludes that military action led by Nigeria alone is unlikely.
