Legitimacy in peace processes includes participation – so people have a voice; representation – so people's concerns are heard; and performance – so people see results. Legitimacy is vital to the support of a peace process, and can help make peace stick.

To explore some of the practical ways that legitimacy can be harnessed to build sustainable peace, Conciliation Resources brought together 38 practitioners, policymakers and stakeholders in peace processes from a diversity of backgrounds for a two-day reflection.

This report – by Dr Achim Wennmann, Accord 25 Issue Editor – distils the main points of discussion, and concludes with a few overarching observations. It is intended to form the development of the forthcoming Accord publication - due out in early 2014.
