UN resolution 1325 was adopted on 31 October 2000. It recognises the need to protect the rights of women during and after conflicts.
For example, it calls for more women in conflict resolution decision-making roles. It also requests the inclusion of a gender perspective when implementing peace agreements and the renewed respect for international laws which protect women and girls. It specifically refers to measures against gender-based violence and the preservation of the humanitarian character of refugee camps.
