Protecting civilians in LRA-affected areas: Regional Civil Society Task Force

People still live in fear of attack by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). Despite a reduction in overall violence, the LRA's presence means that people do not enjoy the freedom of movement needed to pursue their traditional livelihoods of farming, fishing, hunting and trading. 

On the 27 May, the Regional Civil Society Task force met in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). During the meeting religious, traditional and civic leaders and civil society organisations from areas affected by the LRA emphasised the urgent need for strengthened efforts to end LRA attacks. The outcome of the meeting was a series of recommendations for international actors, local governments and community groups on the protection of civilians in LRA-affected areas. 

These recommendations were recorded in the Resolution of the Regional Civil Society Task Force, which was signed by all members.
