International Women's Day – 8 March – marks the contribution that women across the world make to their communities. Nowhere are these efforts more important than in the field of peacebuilding.
However, in too many areas, the voices of women affected by conflict go unheard, and they are often underrepresented in local, national and international conflict resolution strategies.
How we work to empower women as peacebuilders
Conciliation Resources works to strengthen the contribution of women to peacebuilding efforts. Through our partners we also help women deal with the impact violent conflict has on them and their families. Here are some of our recent developments:
- A personal account of Janet Adama Mohammed's involvement in West African peacebuilding over the past 20 years
The inspiring tale of how Lali Grigolava is showing resilience in the face of displacement in Georgia
- An overview of what a group of 24 women from various grassroots women’s organisations in neighbouring countries learn on a visit to northern Uganda, from where the LRA originated.
Without the involvement of all sections of a community – including women – a just and lasting peace is likely to remain elusive as it lacks full insight into the causes and drivers of conflict.
