People taking part in a peace march in Central African Republic

Conciliation Resources staff and peacebuilding partners in the East and Central Africa region have been particularly busy so far in 2012, delivering a range of workshops to build local capacity for responding to conflict.

In January, 20 women attended a community meeting in Rafai and Zemio, two of the Provinces affected by conflict, and a workshop in Bangui, Central African Republic on the prevention of inter-community conflict. Organised by local partners and supported by Conciliation Resources, the workshop focused on strategies to deal with land disputes arising out of LRA activities.

Further work through partners in Yambio, South Sudan has seen women from neighbouring countries supporting each other by sharing experiences of how to cope with LRA violence. Women are among the worst affected by the violence but their opinions are often overlooked in official responses.

Meanwhile in Uganda an information sharing and training workshop is helping equip local partners so they can report instances of violence and analysis the impact of conflict in their region. Building peace takes time but our partners can be confident that our efforts to support them will continue, as we make commitments for the long-term.
