Workshop

When: 9-11 July 2025

Where: Wissenschaftskolleg, Wallotstraße 19, 14193 Berlin, Germany

About the workshop

The Araz scholars’ initiative will hold its next workshop in Berlin in July 2025.

Established in 2023, Araz is a network of Armenian, Azerbaijani and international scholars who seek to challenge the polarising, politicised rhetoric around Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. This year’s workshop will be dedicated to the theme of ‘Power, place and knowledge: Intellectuals, scholars and epistemologies of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict’, and will be hosted by the Wissenschaftskolleg.

The workshop aims to explore the development of heterogenous schools of knowledge about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, the roles that intellectuals and scholars have played in the conflict and peace process, and the relations of power among competing sources of intellectual authority.

The workshop will take place 9-11 July 2025. The Araz network accepts proposals for papers up to 10,000 words, to be submitted by 3 March 2025. Details of how to submit a paper can be found here.

The Araz network seeks to promote an interdisciplinary discussion among scholars, researchers, students and public intellectuals, who can contribute to shifts in regional and global discussions of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict from instrumentalising power interests to an inclusive and critical debate founded on academic rigour.

This initiative is implemented with logistical support from Conciliation Resources through the support of the European Union.
