Bossou is a border community in the Mano River Region, an area that spans four countries and has long been marginalised politically, socially and economically. With few opportunities, many people in these communities feel a sense of isolation and neglect which has resulted in weak relationships between communities and the government and a growing sense of mistrust of local and national authority.
When the Ebola crisis hit Bossou in 2014, this deep mistrust, combined with little understanding of the disease itself, led to violent conflict within the community.
Conciliation Resources has been supporting local peacebuilders in Bossou and across the Mano River Region to identity sources of conflict and build bridges between communities and local and national authorities.
