In this discussion with TRT World Roundtable, our Colombia Programme Director, Kristian Herbolzheimer, argues that despite challenges and polarisation, the country has made remarkable progress, especially when compared with other peace processes around the world.

No rebel organisation in the world has ever decommissioned as fast as FARC combatants; 6000 combatants in seven months. This is a world record, and Colombia is beating world records in a number of ways in this peace process.

He also argues, that for the peace process to continue to develop, there is an urgent need for national reconciliation:

Colombia has reached a point where it is time to draft a common vision for the future. One where there is space for everybody, without hatred and exclusion. That takes time, it will be difficult, but it is fundamental to allow the economic and political growth that can follow.
