A group of Georgian and Abkhaz young people visited Belfast, Northern Ireland as part of the project ‘Understanding the past and facing the future’, organised by Conciliation Resources in cooperation with Saferworld.

This report by Conciliation Resources explains how participants attended meetings with community groups and politicians from various sides to gain insights into Northern Ireland peacemaking and reconciliation.  Although very different conflicts, the young adults learned that there were a number of similarities and there were lessons they could learn for their own peacemaking path, such as the fact that political will needs civil society backing.
